My Role

User Research

  • Planned and conducted remote user interviews

Synthesis

  • Synthesized findings into actionable deliverables such as persona, user journey map, archetypes, key insights, and design opportunities.

Ideation

  • Ideated features and concepts with the design team using methods like the Crazy 8's.

Prototype and Test

  • Created wireframes to rapidly test and iterate the designs from mockups to high-fidelity prototypes.

Overview

Problems

Many drivers continue to face challenges in maintaining their vehicles, staying informed about vehicle conditions, and optimizing their driving experiences. The company sets out to create a competitive advantage by enhancing their user experience within a motor vehicle app ecosystem.

Goals

Enhance the driving experience for users by desiging an app that offers convenience, safety, and efficiency through features such as vehicle monitoring, maintenance scheduling, and other innovative tools.

Target Audience

Our target audience includes vehicle owner, automotive enthusiasts and professionals on-the-go, spans a dynamic age range from 21 to 45.

01 Research and Synthesis

Remote 1-to-1 Interview

Interviewees were asked to complete the 2 tasks with a few follow-up questions to understand their mental model and blockers

Pain Point

1. Manual Scheduling: Presently, scheduling maintenance is a manual process that necessitates customers to place phone calls for appointment booking, resulting in a laborious and resource-intensive procedure.
2. Limited Accessibility: Users do not have access to crucial vehicle performance data; instead, they must depend on technicians for this essential information.
3. Emergency Awareness: There is a lack of awareness regarding the availability of emergency assistance services, leaving users uninformed about their options during critical situations.

Personas

Two key personas were identified.

  • Parents of teenage drivers who want to monitor their children's driving habits and safety;

  • Commuters looking for fuel efficiency tips and seek convenience in their driving experience;

Key Insight & Design Opportunity

Key insights indicate user needs for vehicle monitoring, maintenance scheduling and emergency assistance. Our indirect competitors, who offer high-end vehicles, currently provides their users with access to real-time diagnostics, which we see as a design opportunity from which we can take reference.

Wireframes and Mockups

Drawing from the insights gleaned from usability studies, I implemented significant enhancements, including prominently placing emergency contact details on all screens and introducing a helpful glossary prompt within the vehicle monitoring interface. Additionally, I incorporated the functionality to seamlessly sync appointment details with users' phone calendars, enabling users to conveniently schedule maintenance appointments not only for themselves but also for their family members. The following thoughtfully crafted designs prioritize the maintenance scheduling journey and vehicle monitoring.

Port 2 - Wireframe
Port 2 - Mockup

High-fidelity Prototypes

The hi-fi prototype followed the same user flow as the lo-fi prototype, including design changes made after the usability study.
